Your Comprehensive Checklist For Moving To A New Home

By Eric Campbell

Most people consider moving to another place to live as a highly scary prospect since they are leaving everything they know behind. But think of it as a wonderful opportunity to discover things you have not explored before. When you are ready to face this challenge, you should consider the points featured in the guide below to educate you on how to navigate through this successfully.

In two months. Your first order of business is to seek the services of a professional moving company who is responsible for doing the heavy lifting in carrying your stuff. It is best to start looking for movers in New Hope MN as early as possible so you will work out the logistics. Also determine whether the moving company you chose offers extra insurance coverage.

By seven weeks. Paperwork such as your utility bills must be duly updated when you are transferring to a different location. Contact places such as the bank, the power company, the post office, and the company you work for so you can inform them of your new address. This allows them to input the new information and update their database.

By six weeks. During this specific period, you should already start to execute the process of gradually packing away your household items. Be organized and sort them out into categories to make inventory more efficient. Essential storage materials such as bubble wrap and cardboard boxes will be useful in storing your stuff safely.

By five weeks. Slowly consume all the remaining food in your fridge and kitchen pantry. Avoid buying too much groceries in bulk since you do not want to carry any sort of edible perishables during the move. As much as possible, try ordering takeout food so you will not be hassled with washing dishes you have already packed away.

In one month. Approach your supervisors at work and request to file for a few days leave that will coincide with the date of the home transfer. However, if you are moving far away and the consequence of this action forces you to really look for a new job, then you must hand over your resignation as soon as possible. Tie up all loose ends at work before going away.

By three weeks. If you have subscribed to a newspaper or magazine service, cancel them temporarily and then resubscribe once you have settled in your new residence. Also, have a meeting with your real estate agent. Discuss any final details that needs to be sorted out such as additional contracts or having the house cleaned first prior to your pending move.

By two weeks. Double check everything to confirm that everyone knows your new mailing address and leave no stone unturned in this matter. Have all major appliances in your house properly cleaned and unplugged so they will be ready to go. Withdraw plenty of cash since you will need these funds to tip the movers.

Moving out of a home can be a daunting prospect, but starting fresh in a new place is not so bad. By following the steps outlined in this checklist, you can face this task with confidence. Have a sense of positivity when you know you are embarking on a new chapter with your life.
