Why Play Therapy British Columbia Has Taken Off

By Cynthia Hayes

Play therapy has been proven to be very effective for kids up to about the age of 11. This has taken over from talk therapy because of the benefits that are offered. Children need to feel as if they are able to express themselves in a non-verbal way. This is made possible with play therapy British Columbia.

One of the benefits with play therapy is that it is less intense. Children don't feel as if they are under any pressure. They are able to explore toys and creative activities which they are attracted to. They begin to enjoy this type of therapy and often they look forward to it. It is a great way of connecting with the psychologist.

Children are honest in the way the way they go about the creative process. They will draw and paint freely. They will create a project according to what is on their mind, and it will often be clear what is actually happening with the child. For example, they may draw their family home where there are no doors attached.

Some children will draw a picture of their family. They will use dark colors, which will give one an impression that there is no joy in the home. There may be no expressions on the faces of the families. There may also be some anger involved. A therapist can also tell when there is some abuse involved.

There are different techniques and methods offered. The way a psychologist works, will depend on their experience level and training. However, one must also look at the child and the situation. All children are different and the therapist will often just allow them to explore and let them play with what they enjoy the most.

When children start to express themselves in a non-verbal fashion, one starts to see how much more effective this can be. Kids begin feel a sense of peace with more freedom to do as they please. When children are suffering from learning disorders or autism, for example, parents have seen a big improvement in their behavior at home.

Over time, parents have begun to see a change in their kids. It is especially helpful for children who have autism, as parents are not sure how to handle this. A psychologist like this is equipped with all of the suitable tools, according to the problem that they are trying to solve.

The change in behavior can also relate to bullying which does play a big part on the personality as well as the emotional state of mind. When children do see one of these therapists, they will find that it makes a big change in their lives. It is not always easy for a child to tell their parents what is going on in their life, and that is why one has to be aware of the various signs.
