Things To Do Before You Call Pest Control In Philadelphia

By Frank Young

Our modern day comfort and well being these days are always under attack by pests, especially in places that we most frequent, which are our homes and our offices. When pests are around the first thing we usually do will be probably to call an exterminator, but we should not resort to this method in the first instance. Before we call any pest control in Philadelphia, we should do some preemptive or preventive measures first.

This article will cover some measures that you can do on your own to prevent a full blown infestation and an early call to pest control. These items or measures you can do are simple enough, and all it will take is a bit of elbow grease, initiative and discipline.

A first item on your checklist will be to get rid of clutter in your home or office. Cockroaches and rodents and other unwanted creatures love cluttered areas and ones filled with trash as these are places where they can snuggle, rest, and play in. They are also places for giving birth and such. Areas with most unseen clutter are like storage rooms in either your office or home. Do check these areas periodically for clutter to avoid pest infestation.

Definitely another thing that needs to be done will be a bit of behavioral change for you and the people you live or work with. This behavioral change will involve correcting of eating habits and isolating your eating in one place only, either in the kitchen or dining areas. Do not eat anywhere else in the office or home as the case may be so as to prevent littering of food particles everywhere, which in turn attracts unwanted guests.

Always take out the trash religiously, meaning take it out when you are supposed to at a set time. Do not let it languish around, especially if there are food stuffs in it, as it will be a lure for unwanted pests, most of them being the most unsavory kind. No one ever died taking out the trash on time, and neither will you.

Do some minor pest control or clean up yourself before relying on external assistance. Should you be dealing with a rodent problem, first try to use something else apart from poisons and tracking powders. This is because they will most likely die in an area where you cannot access them, and the pungent smell of their pungent carcasses will haunt you for days or even weeks.

Instead of poisons do resort to more practical methods such as glue boards, electric traps or even snap traps. It is good to note however that these methods are good for rodent populations that are fairly small in size but not for full blown infestations or colonies. If you are dealing with large numbers of this sort, then it will be high time that you should call the pest control specialist in your area.

When the time does come to call an exterminator, then try to do this or schedule this on the weekend. This is so that you can vacate the premises without much ado for about one or two days. You need to air out the establishment after an exterminator visit so as to get rid of any latent chemicals and poisonous residue that may affect your health.
