Useful And Essential Facts About Aluminum Underdecking

By Maria Price

Homeowners always try to find ways to make the outdoor environment part of their home. To avoid the disturbance that results from bad weather when one is enjoying the outdoor environment, some prefer to install awnings at the door. On the other hand, there are some who prefer underdecking systems. These systems provide recreational space for a variety of activities like relaxing, socialization, and doing cookouts. This is worth knowing about aluminum underdecking.

Installing an underdeck system gives the deck a professional, finished look that adds to the beauty and value of the home. Aluminum is such a beautiful material that when installed by a professional installer, can add a lot of value to the home. Home that have decks made from aluminium have a higher value in the market than those that completely lack an underdeck system.

Growth of mildew and mold due to moist conditions is a phenomenon associated with areas under the deck that have limited or no sunlight exposure. A huge mold problem is likely to develop once the mold and mildew spread to other places in the home beyond the deck. The solution is normally to have an aluminum underdeck system installed.

A special gutter system is installed in aluminum underdecks to enable them to catch and route water that comes from rain. The underdeck has a gutter installed at one end where the water is collected and disposed safely through a downspout. As such, it is safe to stay under the deck even when it is raining heavily outdoors.

A typical system is composed of several components that include gutter and downspouts, support braces, ceiling panels, and the trim. Given that these components are made from aluminium, they do not rust when they come in contact with oxygen and rainwater. This is because the metal does not rust like ferrous metals do. This aspect prolongs the durability of the underdeck system.

The first step that an installer will take is to measure the size of the deck before they start any installation work. Having accurate measurements is crucial in determining the number of downspouts required in the system. A single downspout is enough to drain rainwater in an area that is 300 square feet. However, more than one downspout will be needed in case the space is bigger than 300 square feet.

To make sure that rainwater is efficiently drained down the duct, the installation of the deck must be done at the right pitch. The right pitch also serves the purpose of ensuring that leaves and debris are carried away from the underdeck. Strong winds and storms can easily uproot the underdeck system if it is not secured well. That is why the ceiling panels get secured onto the wooden or metallic frame below it adequately.

According to research, 90 percent of homes in the US are currently installed with aluminium underdecking systems. These systems have a green profile and that is part of the reason why people prefer them. Aluminium metal that they are made from is mostly recycled, which helps to keep the environment safer and cleaner.
